The Molli Museum
At the Kühlungsborn West terminus, the Molli Museum invites visitors to take a trip into railroad history. In addition to an indoor area with old ticket printers and signal boxes, there is also an outdoor area where, among other things, an original boiler of steam locomotive 99.2323-6 from 1932, cut open lengthways, is on display.
Experience railroad history
The eastern part of Kühlungsborn West station originally housed the baggage handling area. When it was privatized in 1995, the baggage floor was converted into a museum. Today, historical exhibits are displayed here. The Molli Museum can draw on a large collection of exhibits, particularly due to the modernization and decommissioning of technical equipment on railroad installations. For example, a mechanical lever signal box and a shaped signal from Parkentin station were saved from the scrap yard.
In addition to the indoor area, the museum also has an outdoor area with many large exhibits and a track on which rail vehicles can even be exhibited in the summer months. Mostly on display here are the steam locomotive 99.332 from 1951, which is no longer operational, and the mail coach no. 71 from 1886, the year the narrow-gauge railroad was founded, which has been freshly restored since October 2001.
The museum is run exclusively on a voluntary basis by the Molli Tradition Preservation Association. The entrance is located in the adjoining museum café and can only be used during its opening hours. These can be found here. Admission to the museum is free of charge. However, donations are requested to maintain the museum, which can be placed in an old railroad lantern at the door. Guided tours are also available for groups by prior arrangement.
